Best Putu Piring

The famous handmade Putu Piring is sold by a family at Jalan Tengkera, Malacca. The origin of Putu Piring is from South Indian snack which called Putu Mayam. It is comprised steamed rice noodles and served with grated coconut and 'gula Melaka'.

Malays has modified Putu Piring which incorporate it with 'gula Melaka' within a steamed rice cake. "Putu" refers to the rice cake while "Piring" means "plate" in a Malay word. Putu Piring is made by rice flour, 'gula Melaka' and fine salt.

The cheesecloth will be placed on the top of the cake before steaming and it will takes around 8 minutes per rice cake. After complete steaming, Putu Piring is then topped with lightly-salted grated coconut.

Each rice cake is only 90 cents, so you are strongly recommended to try this if you visit Malacca. Just remember that the best time to enjoy the putu piring is while they are still warm and fluffy. But you couldn’t wait to eat them anyway.
